The lost Poombuhar

Poombuhar is a small coastal village in Tamil Nadu. It was once a flourishing ancient port city known as Kaveri Poompattinam which for a while served as the capital of the early Chola kings.

In the current days, Mr. Karunanidhi the ex-CM of Tamil Nadu has shown a lot of interest in this place and built a lot of monuments and museums to showcase the history of the town. But now its all left to ruins again. It’s so bad that the taxpayer’s money is wasted like this without proper maintenance. Shame on the tourism board and the district management.

Welcoming you into the village are multiple arches named after the characters of the epic Silapathigarma which literally means the story of the anklet.

Silapathigaram Arch

The beach has a Silapathigaram museum left without any maintenance explaining the story in carvings. There is a small garden around the museum which is again left for ruins.
